How to Test Your Speaker Online

Start the Test

Make sure your speakers are on and connected, then click the Start Speaker Test button.

Listen to the Audio

The tool plays audio through your left and right channels separately. Listen carefully for any difference in volume or clarity between both sides.

Get Your Results

The tool analyzes your speakers and shows you exactly how they are performing in terms of your sound quality, stereo balance, and frequency response. If anything is wrong, we will give you personalized suggestions to fix it based on your actual results.

What Is a Speaker Test?

A speaker test is a quick online sound test that tells you whether your speakers are working correctly and how good they actually sound. You click the test button, and within seconds you get a full picture of your speaker performance - your left/right balance, stereo quality, frequency response, and overall sound quality.

Most people never think about their speakers until something goes wrong. They join a call and nobody can hear anything. They set up a new external speaker and one side sounds weaker. They play music and notice the audio sounds distorted or off balance. Running a free speaker test before any of that happens saves you the frustration.

This online speaker test works with every type of speaker - built-in laptop speakers, external speakers, Bluetooth speakers, and phone speakers. Unlike other tools that just show a pass or fail, this speaker test tells you exactly what is wrong and gives you personalized suggestions to fix it based on your actual result. No download, no signup, works on any device.

The whole process takes under a minute. Your audio is never sent to any server or stored anywhere.

What Does the Speaker Test Show You?

Once the online sound test runs, you will get a full breakdown of your speaker performance. Here is what each result means:

Left/Right Channel

Confirms both speakers are producing sound equally. If one side is silent or sounds weaker than the other, this will catch it immediately.

Sound Quality Score

An overall rating of how your speakers are performing based on clarity, volume consistency, and frequency accuracy. The higher the score, the better your speakers sound.

Stereo Balance

Checks if both channels are playing at equal volume. An imbalance usually means the wrong audio settings are active or one speaker has a hardware issue.

Frequency Response

Sweeps across the full audio range from low to high. This detects any distortion, crackling, or dead spots at any frequency level.

Personalized Suggestions

Based on your results, we tell you exactly what to fix - whether that is adjusting your output settings, updating your drivers, or checking your cable connection. Every suggestion is based on your actual sound test result, not generic advice.

Why Are My Speakers Not Working?

There are several reasons why your speakers may not be working. Most of them are simple settings or connection issues you can fix in under a minute. Running a quick online speaker test is the fastest way to find out what is going wrong.

If your speakers pass the test but audio still sounds off, run the online tone generator to isolate specific frequencies, or take the hearing test to rule out hearing-related issues.

Volume is Muted or Too Low

The most common reason your speaker test shows no audio. Your system volume or the physical mute button may have been accidentally toggled.

Fix — Check your system volume, unmute if needed, and run the speaker test again.

Wrong Output Device is Selected

Your device may be sending audio to headphones or a Bluetooth device instead of your speakers without you realizing it.

Fix — Go to your sound settings, find the output device, and make sure your speakers are selected.

Headphone Jack is Stuck

If a headphone jack is partially inserted or stuck in the port, your device thinks headphones are plugged in and stops all sound from coming through the speakers.

Fix — Plug headphones in fully and unplug them again. This resets the audio jack sensor and restores sound to your speakers immediately.

Another App is Controlling Audio

Some apps like Zoom, Spotify, or game launchers override your default audio output and redirect sound elsewhere.

Fix — Close all other apps that use audio and run the speaker test again.

Bluetooth Speaker Not Set as Active Output

Your Bluetooth speaker may be paired but not selected as the active output device, so audio is still playing through your laptop speakers instead.

Fix — Go to your sound settings, find your Bluetooth speaker in the output list, and select it as the active device.

Audio Driver Issue

A Windows update or corrupted driver can cause sound to stop completely or produce crackling and distortion.

Fix — Start with the simplest step first. Restart your device — this alone fixes most driver related issues. If sound is still not working, go to Settings → System → Sound → Troubleshoot and run the Windows Audio Troubleshooter. If the problem persists after that, open Device Manager, find your audio device, right click and select Update Driver.

Laptop Speaker vs External Speaker — Different Problems, Different Fixes

Most speaker problems fall into one of two categories — your laptop built-in speaker is not working or your external speaker is not working. The fix path for each is completely different. Knowing which one you have saves you from trying the wrong steps.

Laptop Built-in Speaker Not Working

If your laptop speaker has suddenly stopped working, the issue is almost always software related.

  • Check that no headphones or external speakers are plugged in — your laptop automatically switches output when something is connected
  • Make sure the correct output device is selected in sound settings
  • Run the Windows Audio Troubleshooter or restart your device
  • Check that your browser or app has permission to play audio
  • Update your audio driver if nothing else works

External Speaker Not Working

If your external speaker is not producing sound, start with the physical checks before touching any settings.

  • Check the power cable and make sure the speaker is turned on
  • Check the audio cable is fully plugged into both the speaker and your device
  • Try a different cable or a different USB port if using a USB speaker
  • Make sure the speaker is selected as the output device in sound settings
  • Try connecting the speaker to a different device to rule out a hardware fault

Bluetooth Speaker Not Working

Bluetooth speaker issues almost always come down to pairing state or output device selection.

  • Turn Bluetooth off and on again on your device
  • Disconnect the speaker from Bluetooth settings and reconnect it fresh
  • Make sure the speaker is set as the active output device after reconnecting
  • Keep the speaker within range — Bluetooth range varies by device but walls, interference from other devices, and distance can all cause audio to cut out. Move your device closer to the speaker if audio drops.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is only one speaker working?

This usually means the audio balance is skewed to one side in your sound settings. Go to your sound settings, find the balance slider, and make sure it is centered. If both sides still do not work equally after adjusting, the issue may be a hardware fault with the speaker itself.

Why does my speaker sound muffled?

Muffled sound is almost always caused by dust blocked in the speaker grille or a damaged audio driver. Clean the speaker grille with a soft brush first. If the sound is still muffled, check your audio driver and update it if needed.

Can I test my phone speaker with this tool?

Yes. Open this page in your phone browser, click Start Speaker Test, and the tool will run using your phone speaker. It works on both Android and iPhone.

Can I test a soundbar with this tool?

Yes. Connect your soundbar and make sure it is selected as the output device in your sound settings. Then run the speaker test normally and you will see how your soundbar is performing.

How do I fix my Mac speaker?

Start by going to System Settings → Sound → Output and make sure the correct output device is selected. If sound is still not working, restart your Mac. If the problem persists, reset the Core Audio process by opening Terminal and typing sudo killall coreaudiod and pressing Enter.

Is this speaker test free and safe?

Yes. The test runs entirely in your browser. No audio is recorded, stored, or sent to any server. Everything stays on your device and the tool is completely free to use.
